  • Emergency rensponse manoeuvre in Guangdong province

Floods have caused damage to millions of people in China, as 433 rivers across the country have been flooded since early June.

These days, Guangdong province has been organising an emergency rensponse and rescue manoeuvre with all related departments, especially the surveying and mapping bureau, the water conservancy bureau and the emergency command center.

Using CW series UAVs with RGB camera, LiDAR and miniSAR to do pre-disaster mapping comparison, and with gimbal camera to do real-time monitoring, UAVs can play an important part in disaster prevention and response.

This emergency surveying and mapping manoeuvre simulates the occurrence of landslides in Xinfengjiang Reservoir in Heyuan due to heavy rains for several days, forming a dammed lake. The water level rises rapidly and the lake is inverted.

At the same time, the structure of the mountain is unstable, and some slopes are likely to cause major geological disasters such as landslides again. Hidden hazards seriously threaten the lives and property safety of surrounding people. It is urgent to obtain images, videos and three-dimensional terrain data of this key area to provide data support for disaster hazard assessment and auxiliary command decision-making.

The emergency surveying and mapping operation team received the command from the drill commander and responded immediately and quickly dispatched the CW-30 equipped with LiDAR to complete the pre-flight preparations such as assembly and flight inspection within ten minutes. It operates one sortie and performs three-dimensional laser on the landslide area point cloud data collection.

The 3D LiDAR point cloud data obtained by CW-30LiDAR can simulate and calculate the volume of landslides, and provide data support for hazard assessment and auxiliary command decision-making.

Using new equipment and optimizing the operation process, the emergency surveying and mapping operation team only took 90 minutes from arriving at the scene to completing the data acquisition and data processing.
